Weekend getaway

Since we had a long weekend last weekend (yes, I'm that behind on updating the blog) Adam and I decided to head to Maine and spend some time at the cottage with his dad and stepmom. Adam hadn't seen his dad since thanksgiving so it seemed like a good way to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Our ride up there was somewhat of a headache. We didn't look at a map beforehand and simply plugged our destination into the GPS which took us right through New York City and over the George Washington Bridge. We were stuck in NYC traffic for about an hour and a half. Meanwhile I didn't listen to Adam and stop at a rest stop in New Jersey to let the dog out and she was whining about going to the bathroom while we were stuck in traffic. Between traffic and a whining dog it was not a good time. As soon as we got out of the city we got off at the first exit we saw, pulled into a parking lot and took her on some grass. She barely stepped on the grass before she was relieving herself. Poor girl, it's no fun holding it in.

After that we hit some traffic in Connecticut but other than that, it was smooth driving. We got to Maine early in the morning, but the guesthouse was already set up for us. I suggested staying in the guesthouse since Daisy tends to bark at all the new sounds that come with staying in a new place. Since it's so quiet out there in Maine there weren't a lot of sounds so she actually wasn't too bad.

We don't do a lot when we're out in Maine other than eat, ride in the boat, read on the porch, visit neighboring towns. It's always a nice relaxing time. Daisy got to go on her first boat ride. My last dog, Madison, hate boat rides and docks. Daisy was a little nervous going down the runway down to the dock, but other than that she did great. She sat by me on her first boat ride, but quickly became a sea dog.

Adam had seen a segment about a place called the A1 diner on the Food Network which is in Gardiner (about 40 mins from the cottage). We headed there Sunday, but on Sundays they just serve brunch. It has a great atmosphere of an old diner and had a great menu but since they just do brunch on Sundays we didn't get to try it. Their brunch is really good, but I personally think there are equally good brunches closer. Adam wants to go back when they are serving lunch or dinner before he makes a decision.

On our way back from the diner, we stopped and walked around Wiscasset since the day had started off rainy but ended up beautiful. Below are Daisy and I in the sunken gardens.

As I mentioned, Daisy quickly became a fan of riding on the boat. It is like a car ride with the top down. Below is a video of her favorite position on the boat. In addition to the air, she also liked looking at the water....she gets that from her mom.

As usual it was a great trip. The ride there is a little longer than we had anticipated despite the fact that everyone on the New Jersey turnpike thinks they are racing in the Indy 500. We're thinking about heading up there again in July when the niece and nephews will be there. They are so much fun to be around, exhausting, but fun!
